The Bangko Sentral Singers

The group that has the deepest roots in the bank’s cultural scene is the chorale, now known as the Bangko Sentral Singers. Its founder, the then Special Assistant to the Governor, MERCEDES PAREDES who continued to perform with the group even in the remaining days of her stay in the Bank.

The original CB Chorale was formed in the sixties and enjoyed the patronage of management and dedication of its members. To give them musical direction, the bank hired distinguished conductors, among them, National Artist Lucio San Pedro, composer Professor Restie Umali (who was the composer of the Himno Bangko Sentral), Andrea Veneracion, Joel Navarro and Dr. Raul C. Navarro.

To prove that they are worth the support of the management, the Bangko Sentral Singers stood as the grand slam winner in the Choral Competion for the period 1986 to 1989 beating the Philippine National Bank, Development Bank of the Philippines and the Land Bank of the Philippines.

BS Singers Entertained the 2009 BSP Employees Retirees

The Bangko Sentral Singers were invited to sing at the Recognition Day of the 2009 BSP Retired Employees at the Assembly Hall, 3/F Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas last 9 December 2009.

We started the program by singing the Invocation Song, "Ama Namin" arranged by Ryan Cayabyab, and followed by the Philippine National Anthem. After few numbers, we were called again on stage and we sang two songs entitled "Go the Distance" and "Kahapon, Bukas, Ngayon". As I glanced at the teary-eyed audience, I felt the sadness in their hearts. As if they were reminiscing their precious and happy moments when they were still here in BSP. But then though they were no longer in the bank, they will always remain in our hearts....forever!

God bless all of you! May you continue to enjoy life after BSP.

THE BANGKO SENTRAL SINGERS - THE HISTORY......

The Bangko Sentral Singers was formally organized or formed in 1978 with no less than Maestro Resty Umali as Conductor. The group was composed of a large number of members possessing quality voices. These brilliant voices became the backbone of this group which inspired and encouraged new brood of equally musically-inclined young men and women of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Other famous personalities who handled the BSP Choir were National Artist Mr. Lucio San Pedro, Mrs. Adoracion Veneracion (the conductress of the great and famous "The Philippine Madrigal Singers"), Ms. Luz Morete of St. Scholastica's College and Jojo Acosta (a student from the University of the Philippines), Mr. Joel Navarro, and of course, our current mentor and conductor, the untiring Dr. Raul Navarro of the University of the Philippines.

Members come and go due to . . . . .
old age,

busy bodies,
overloaded work,

laziness to attend practices,
uncooperative & strict bosses
(who will question them anyway? We are here to work not sing. ha!ha!ha! ummmp!),
and many more reasons!

But I believe if you want music, if you are really a music-lover, you will always go back to what you want to do and what you enjoy doing..... and that is singing!

So come join the BANGKO SENTRAL SINGERS in expressing their love for music.

If we can do it, you can do it too!
